If getting the property at the price you need is the key to being a success in real estate investing then improving your negotiating skills are the key to real estate success.

Most people think expert negotiators are born that way but what they don't realize is that negotiating is a learned skill.

There are two main factors to improve your negotiating.

1) Neediness makes for BAD deals.

You need to know how badly you need this deal by comparing it to your other choices.  Then, you need to know how badly the other party needs the deal and what their other choices are.  The one who needs it least has the most negotiating power.

2) Preparation is Power

If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail.  This is where "knowledge is power" comes in.  Knowing the parties, their personalities, how they think, the real estate market for that particular property and creating a game plan for moving through the process gives you much more power.
